Historic Home Remodel in Wilmington, DE
Following are some before and after photos of a kitchen remodel (and more) to home built in 1902. Some highlights to note:
- a new layout for much of the first floor (detailed below)
- a butler's pantry was removed to create better flow and open up the entire space (the existing pantry had four doors - to kitchen, hallway, dining room and basement - as well as closet doors)
- access to basement steps was moved to kitchen
- opened up wall between kitchen and dining room (structural beam installed and custom arched molding added to match existing moldings in the home); access to dining room previously was only through butler's pantry
- existing entry to mudroom moved (previously through the kitchen); powder room added to the mudroom (pocket door installed for powder room)
- radiators throughout were removed, restored and reinstalled; some were replaced with salvaged and restored radiators
- plaster wall along basement steps demoed to expose brick
- reclaimed wood used to create powder room vanity and mudroom bench and shelf
- fabric wallpaper installed in dining room shadow boxes, molding boxes along hallway stairs, and powder room ceiling
