Shade of white with grey stone bench tops

We had chosen Dulux Natural White for our kitchen/living area- we we're looking for something pretty neutral and didn't want the place to seem cold. I've tested it and am happy that it looks good in kitchen, and also down the hallway etc.

The issue began when we went to look at slabs for the kitchen bench tops, island, splash back and potentially waterfall (all the same stone). While we haven't chosen our stone yet all contenders are pale with grey veins.

The problem is when I stuck a Natural White sample on all stones it looked really really yellow, and all the stones looked really really blue.

Our kitchen will have pretty good natural light from windows and skylights, though none are directly over/in the kitchen.

The lightening in the stone warehouse was somewhat nasty 'big warehouse lighting', obviously designed for safety not ambience. The charming gentlemen in the stone place moved a slab into a place with more natural light, but it was still difficult to imagine.

Am I overthinking this? Is the issue the warehouse lighting or would you recommend against using a yellow based white with grey based stone?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Em, no you are not overthinking it, it is important to pick a white that does not clash with your tops, or kitchen face colour.

You can't change the colour of granites but you can pick a colour to suit your Granite (stone), which is why we like to recommend that our clients should always choose their stone (and cabinet colours) first and then choose their wall paint colour after the kitchen is installed. In addition to your floor throwing off colour, also effecting wall colour in the room is the type of Lighting which have a strong influence (white light or warm light) where these too are other good reasons to pick your wall colour last after the kitchen installation where you can best see that paint colour within your space and not someone else's warehouse or showroom.

Hope this is of some help, regards. Malcolm

Lighting does make a huge difference in most cases. What kind of stone you are choosing? Natural stone or man made? Most man made stone suppliers can give you a small piece for you to take home. There are a lot of options with creamy base with brown veins. Such as Calacatta Nuvo and Statuario Maximus.
