Thank you for reaching out. Here is another angle of this deck that gives you a different perspective of the rood line. I can see your concern about having a split level and adding this type of overhang without obstructing the view from the second story.

The walls are about 5 feet tall and act as a retaining wall for the hillside that this home was built into.
