Before & after: Stunning transformation of a family home with views

Our clients' home resided on a beautiful outlook overlooking Berwora Valley National Park. They wanted to take advantage of the views, however were not able to do so with their existing home. The proposal was to redesign the existing dwelling and add a first floor to transform it into a modern contemporary home, whilst retaining the same footprint/subfloor and incorporating the existing pool. It was to have 4 spacious bedrooms and a large master with an ensuite and walk-in wardrobe.

Before Renders:

The new design was to open up to the beautiful views however because it is west facing a balance between glassed views and comfortable living was necessary due to the solar heat gains. An integral part of the design was to have a home theatre room, designed specifically for their surround sound system. The existing space for it is cluttered and small with barely any room for the speakers. Overall the existing dwelling was dark and unrefined. The proposal was to give it a new facelift, add a second storey and create a dwelling that seamlessly connects the existing pool and the outlook with the new home.

• Modern contemporary

• 4 bedrooms spacious, 1 master

• Home theatre designed to client surround sound specs

• Render, timber, modern feel

• House faces west, fantastic views to west, issue with solar heat gain because we want lots of

glass, fantastic sun sets.

• Dwelling to tie in with existing pool

• Balance between views and comfortable living

• Bushfire construction of bal 29

• Working with existing split level house to build off subfloor

By building up another floor we are able to free up space on the ground floor and have a perfect outlook of the valley. This enabled us to redesign the layout of the ground floor creating a spacious home theatre and a living, dining and kitchen experience which brings in both the view and the pool. The existing home had a small alfresco/ balcony overlooking the view. However minimal windows to combat the solar heat. In the proposed design we were able to extend the balcony and incorporate large windows throughout the ground floor. By upgrading the glass and having a first floor balcony acting as a shading device, solar heat is minimised whilst views of the valley is maximised.

• Improved glass quality, added shading devices and addition of alfresco/ balcony for above

shaded below.

• Natural light into kitchen, living and dining

• First floor addition
