Fireplace gas insert sizing help!

In our new addition, a 36" W gas fireplace was mistakenly installed, instead of the 40" W that we ordered. We didn't realize it until after the stone went up. We don't want the mantle or tv any higher so the height must remain as is, so we have two options: keep the 36" W with 27,000 BTUs or replace it with a 42" W with only 22,000 BTUs (less heat). Does anyone have experience with Napoleon fireplaces? Will the 36" look too dinky in our great room (24' W x 16D x 13H)? If we switch it out to a 42", will we sacrifice the larger flame & more heat that the 36" offers?

Hello Chikmw. Each fireplace model has a clearance to combustibles guide, or in your case a mantel clearance. First thing to do is to check the specifications on each fireplace and compare them. I can't seem to see what material your mantel is made from, but if it is wood, clearances for mantel height is your first stop. Cheers, Martes at Maxwell.
